The Lost Girls is an upcoming American drama film directed by Liz Garbus, from a screenplay by Lisa Loomer. The film stars Amy Ryan, Gabriel Byrne, Thomasin McKenzie, Oona Laurence, Linda Emond, Reed Birney, and Kevin Durand.
It is based on the book of the same name by Robert Kolker. It will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on June 17, 2022
The film will follow Mari Gilbert (Ryan) as she searches for her missing daughter Shannon Gilbert (McKenzie). When Mari discovers that Shannon is one of five victims of a suspected serial killer targeting sex workers on Long Island, she sets out to find justice for her daughter and the other girls.
The Lost Girls is set to be released on June 17, 2022, by Vertical Entertainment.
Plot
In 2010, 24-year-old Shannon Gilbert goes missing after leaving work at a local hotel in Long Island. Her mother Mari Gilbert (Amy Ryan) begins a tireless search for her daughter, only to discover that Shannon is one of five victims of a suspected serial killer targeting sex workers on Long Island. Desperate to find justice for her daughter and the other girls, Mari sets out to uncover the truth.

Production
In September 2018, it was announced Liz Garbus would direct the film, based on the book The Lost Girls: An Unsolved American Mystery by Robert Kolker, with Amy Ryan set to star. Lisa Loomer wrote the screenplay. In March 2019, Gabriel Byrne and Thomasin McKenzie joined the cast of the film. In April 2019, Oona Laurence, Linda Emond, Reed Birney, and Kevin Durand joined the cast of the film.
Release
The film is scheduled to have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on June 17, 2022 It is scheduled to be released on February 21, 2020, by Vertical Entertainment.
